ALLEREASE ®
CERTIFICATION
With room allergens being a relatively new concern in the hotel industry, third-party certification is crucial for hotels offering hypoallergenic rooms. Consumers trust certified claims over company assertions.
The AllerEase® Program is designed to ensure trust and authenticity for consumers and prevent the commodification of hypoallergenic rooms.
Over 25% of the population now experiences allergy symptoms from common room allergens like dust mites, pet dander, and mold spores.
- Dust mites are the number one allergen travelers encounter. A recent study showed that over 25% of the population in developed countries are now allergic to the digestive enzyme dust mites produce–and this number is increasing.
Most people who have dust mite allergies don’t even know it. They never get diagnosed because their symptoms are mild. These people wake up with a stuffy nose that clears up quickly, not realizing their stuffiness is a mild allergy symptom.
These guests will sleep poorly when their noses become stuffy from the dust mite allergens rising out of their bed pillows, mattresses, and duvets during the night. They will wake up tired. This situation leads to lower guest survey results.
Hoteliers can safeguard their unsuspecting dust mite allergy-suffering guests by outfitting all guest room pillows, mattresses, and duvets with specially woven covers that prevent dust mites from nesting inside. The investment for AllerEase® guest rooms works out to about 10 cents per day.
Hoteliers commit to making at least 20% of accommodations hypoallergenic AllerEase® rooms.
These rooms are outfitted with pillow and mattress encasements that protect guests against dust mites. Certified AllerEase® hotels also change ALL relevant bedding in AllerEase® rooms with each guest’s arrival.
HEPA filters protect guests against microscopic airborne particulates like dust, pollen, mold spores, pet dander, dust mites, bacteria, and airborne viruses–including COVID-19.
Hotel owners may also list their hotel as an “AllerEase® Hotel” on various online travel agency (OTA) websites.
CERTIFIED ALLEREASE ® SEAL
Hoteliers who properly outfit and maintain their hypoallergenic rooms and have trained their staff through the WHAI’s online training program, WHAI University, are eligible to display the distinctive Certified AllerEase® silver seal on their website. This seal is a beacon to allergy sufferers and consumers seeking healthier hotel room environments.
ALL ROOMS ALLEREASE ® SEAL
Hoteliers who make all guest rooms AllerEase® can display the gold ALL ROOMS AllerEase® seal on their website.
Hotels with all hypoallergenic rooms have the advantage over competitors.
The AllerEase® Hotel Program provides a profitable way to take this crucial action. And with our strategic business partners, you can try the Program with virtually no risk.
step 1
Select the Start-Now Plan or the Almost There Plan based on your hotel’s current situation.
step 2
step 3
Experiment with slight ADR (Average Daily Rate) increases to gauge their impact on occupancy and overall revenue. Depending on your hotel’s room rate, properties can finance hypoallergenic rooms with a rate adjustment of less than 0.5%.
-
Studies indicate that nearly two-thirds of travelers prefer hotels that offer hypoallergenic rooms over those that don’t. That means it’s likely your properties’ AllerEase® status will improve their STR Star Report performances against their Comp Sets.
If their performance improves, incrementally increase your ADR to measure the impact. You may find that you can increase ADR by one percent or more with no adverse effect.
